Welcome

Calm, space and a front door of your own

Maliesingel Suite is the souterrain (garden level) of Maliesingel 74, a Neo-Gothic national monument (no. 514278) that was remodelled in 1873 to a design by architect Alfred Tepe. In 2026 we fully renovated the souterrain into a light, quiet apartment for two.

Everything is yours alone: a private entrance, a living room with sofa, a complete Atag kitchen, a bedroom with a double bed, a bathroom with rain shower and a separate utility room with washer and dryer. We live in the house upstairs and are around if you need us.

The house is on the Maliesingel, the quiet, green east side of Utrecht's canal ring, close to Lepelenburg park. The historic centre is a ten-minute walk.

Good to know

A souterrain, not a canal view

We'd rather tell you up front: the apartment is on the souterrain level of the house. A few steps lead down to your own front door, and the windows are partly at street level, so you won't be looking out over the canal. In return it is wonderfully quiet, and the underfloor heating keeps it cosy in winter. And the canal is right outside the door.

Stay in a piece of Utrecht history

Maliesingel 74 belonged to the Hiëronymushuis, the Roman Catholic home for the elderly and orphanage built here in 1873–1874 for the Sisters of Charity of Tilburg. Architect Alfred Tepe converted an older T-shaped farmhouse into a service residence, with stepped gables, decorative brickwork and wrought-iron details you can still see on the facade.
